Microstructural defects in hot deformed and as-transformed ?-MnAl-C

In this study, detailed microstructural characterisation has been conducted in both as-transformed and hot deformed samples of ?-MnAl-C using transmission electron microscopy. After deformation, true twins, dislocations, intrinsic stacking faults precipitates Mn 3 AlC are the main defects recrystallised grains. True twins order were distinguished based on differences their diffraction patterns. A significant fraction non-recrystallised grains existed, which had microstructures combinations high densities deformation bands. The formation was confirmed related to reduction saturation magnetization increase Curie temperature after deformation. Antiphase boundaries, believed act as nucleation sites for reverse domains, not observed sample. • higher coercivity sample results mainly from a dramatic grain size. Non-recrystallised regions contain many dislocations absence antiphase boundary could also contribute improvement coercivity.
